A standing hoist with a thoracic sling is designed to assist individuals who have some ability to bear weight through their legs but require additional support to stand and transfer safely. The thoracic sling provides secure support around the upper body, enabling the individual to participate in the transfer while reducing the physical demands on family members and carers.
This type of transfer aid is commonly recommended for people with neurological conditions, muscle weakness or reduced mobility who are no longer able to complete safe standing transfers independently but do not yet require a full passive hoist. It can be used for transfers between a bed, chair, wheelchair and toilet, while also supporting short periods of standing for personal care where clinically appropriate.
Following an independent Occupational Therapy assessment, Adapt OT can determine whether a standing hoist with a thoracic sling is the most appropriate solution, considering the individual’s strength, balance, weight-bearing ability and transfer needs.
